As a private school Woodland Academy has no restrictions on religious and patriotic references.

 Woodland Academy Mission Statement

Woodland Academy offers an affordable pre-kindergarten through sixth grade educational program to a diverse student body in a traditional, non-denominational setting.  The curriculum allows for individualized academic growth preparing students to continue their education in private or public high schools throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Woodland Academy selects textbooks from the list approved by the State of Virginia Department of Education.  We are aware of the order of subject presentation required by the Public Schools and consider the transition process in writing our curriculum.  SOL testing is not required or permitted by private schools.

Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum Profile- 2010-2011

3-year-old Program

The early learning curriculum is designed to provide your child with the basic skills needed during the early years of their education.  This program includes a variety of activities, puzzles, and games including letter recognition and alphabetical order, consonant blends and diagraphs, short and long vowels, counting, comparing and contrasting, addition and subtraction, shapes and patterns

4-year-old Program

The main focus of the 4-year-old program is to prepare students to enter an all-day Kindergarten.  This complete program requires attendance for a minimum of three days a week, preferably Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Scholastic’s Get Ready for Kindergarten book is the basis of the program.  The children will experience motivating skill-building practice in letter formation, numbers and counting, phonics and basic concepts.  The guidelines for the centers are based on Virginia’s Foundation Blocks for Early Learning.  These are comprehensive Standards for Four Year Olds encompassing literacy, science, history and social science, physical and motor development, mathematics, personal and social development.

Virginia’s Foundation Blocks for Early Learning establishes a range of skills and knowledge that are essential in assisting four-year-olds to have a smooth transition to Kindergarten.

Centers are designed to encourage role and dramatic play, science, literacy, math, and social development.

Students participate in weekly enrichment classes in computer and library classes as well as regular art, physical education and life skills.  Field trips, special in-school presentations and several school-wide programs are part of the 4-year-old curriculum.

 Before and After School Care

Before-school childcare is available from 7:45 – 8:30.  After-school childcare is available from 3:00 – 5:30.  There is an additional charge for students enrolled in the 3 year old or 4 year old programs for this service.
